Hen party · Bachelorette · Cologne
Cologne is made for celebrating the bride-to-be: a compact centre, the Rhine around every corner and a city that genuinely loves a party. Here are the building blocks for a hen weekend that feels like her, from Saturday brunch to the last song of the night.
For the one who is about to say yes.
Start slow. A long brunch is the perfect opening: everyone arrives, the bride gets celebrated and the plan for the day lands on the table. For bowls that look like small works of art, try The Great Berry. Just as lovely: one of you hosts at home or in the holiday flat, with flowers, a playlist and her favourite things on the table.
To unwind
Thermal pools and saunas with a view towards the cathedral, right next to the Rheinpark. A few calm hours together before the night picks up. Times and tickets at claudius-therme.de.
To laugh and snack
On its own little peninsula in the Rheinauhafen, complete with a fountain of liquid chocolate. Sounds like a school trip, feels brilliant with your crew. Info at schokoladenmuseum.de.
For the view
Glide across the Rhine in a gondola: one of the best views of the city and a group photo she will frame. It runs seasonally from March to early November, see koelner-seilbahn.de.

When the afternoon turns into evening, head for the water. The Rheinboulevard on the Deutz side has the most famous cathedral view in town, the Kranhäuser in the Rheinauhafen have the modern lines. Put the bride in the middle and take the one group photo that ends up at the wedding. Exact sunset times for any day are in our sunset calculator (in German, the numbers speak for themselves).
Now it depends on your crew's energy. For conversations over really good drinks: the cocktail bar ONA MOR on Roonstraße or Bumann & SOHN in Ehrenfeld. Both are popular, so book a table. For dancing afterwards, Cologne has a corner for every mood: the Ringe around Friesenplatz for the classic club strip, the Zülpicher Viertel for student pubs, Ehrenfeld for live music. Our Cologne nightlife guide (in German) has the details.
Highlight · Golden Flame
Some hen parties deserve a bigger stage. Golden Flame events in Cologne are built around the atmosphere, the music and the people you are with: house music to arrive, then more and more of a party with songs everyone sings along to. Our events take place at the Flora, the Rheinterrassen by the Rhine and the Wartesaal am Dom, and groups of friends are a big part of the crowd. The bride dances in the middle, you around her, and a few days later you find yourselves in the gallery.
Next event – Spooky Flame: Sat, 31 October, 10 pm – 4 am, Wartesaal am Dom, Cologne, 18+. Tickets →

Yes. Cologne is compact, easy to reach by train and plane, and known for its open, friendly party culture. Brunch, spa, river views, cocktail bars and clubs are all a few tram stops apart, which makes it easy to plan a full weekend.
A good hen weekend combines a few building blocks: a long brunch to arrive, an experience together such as the Claudius Therme, the Chocolate Museum or the cable car, a group photo at golden hour on the Rheinboulevard, and a night out in a cocktail bar or at an event such as Golden Flame.
For drinks, the Belgian Quarter, the area around Roonstraße and Ehrenfeld. For clubs, the Ringe around Friesenplatz and Rudolfplatz. For a big night with a theme, Golden Flame events take place at the Flora, the Rheinterrassen and the Wartesaal am Dom.
Two to three months ahead is a good window, earlier if your date falls around carnival. Tables, spa slots and event tickets on Saturdays are the first to go.
Yes, groups of friends are a big part of every Golden Flame crowd. Entry is 18+ with photo ID, tickets are only sold online in advance and you can arrive any time during the night.
Pick your building blocks, check when the next Golden Flame event is on, and turn the hen party into a weekend you will all talk about at the wedding.
